It is easily\nextensible since its editing commands are written in Lisp.\n\nXEmacs's many special packages handle mail reading (RMail) and sending\n(Mail), outline editing (Outline), compiling (Compile), running\nsubshells within Emacs windows (Shell), running a Lisp read-eval-print\nloop (Lisp-Interaction-Mode), automated psychotherapy (Doctor :-) and\nmany more. There is a WWW browsing mode written fully in elisp\nthat looks and behaves much like the netscape WWW browser.\n\nXEmacs has similar functionality to GNU Emacs. It uses a different\ndisplay model, including support for Motif menu and scroll bars and the\nability to run as a widget inside other applications. Many people say\nit looks nicer than GNU Emacs.","flavors":[],"html":"https://daemonports.org/netbsd/editors/xemacs-current/","kind":"port","lastUpdate":"2026-10-06T10:23:52Z","license":["gnu-gpl-v3"],"maintainer":"","name":"xemacs","newest":true,"newestVersion":"21.5.36","noVulnData":false,"origin":"editors/xemacs-current","otherSystems":[{"behindSince":"2026-10-06","maintainer":"The OpenBSD ports mailing-list \u003cports@openbsd.org\u003e","matchedBy":"name","noVulnData":true,"origin":"editors/xemacs21/stable","path":"/openbsd/editors/xemacs21/stable/","system":"OpenBSD","version":"21.4.22p38"}],"packages":[{"repo":"NetBSD 10.1 x86_64","versions":["21.5.36nb1"]},{"repo":"NetBSD 10.1 aarch64","versions":["21.5.36nb1"]},{"repo":"SmartOS / illumos x86_64","versions":["-"]},{"repo":"macOS 15 arm64","versions":["-"]}],"pkgName":"xemacs-21.5.36nb1","related":["editors/xemacs","editors/xemacs-current-nox11","editors/xemacs-nox11","editors/xemacs-packages","wip/xemacs-hg"],"repository":"pkgsrc","requiredBy":[],"requiredByCount":0,"runDepends":["databases/gdbm","devel/gmp","graphics/libjpeg-turbo","graphics/png","graphics/tiff"],"status":null,"system":"netbsd","systemLabel":"NetBSD","version":"21.5.36nb1","versions":[{"commit":"4ad00c6b7435f7a93f756609da62a1a64256b8a8","date":"2026-10-06","version":"21.5.37"},{"commit":"59a7fdbfd08ed4e1c55b13ddc0b89f3c31b09e87","date":"2026-10-06","version":"21.5.36"}],"vulnerabilities":null,"www":"https://www.xemacs.org/"}
