The\ndisadvantage is that it introduces hard dependencies between\nthe source files that are included and complicates distribution\nand updates. It was principally used with hyperref but is not\ncurrently used in any standard packages in TeX Live. The\npackages are still distributed as simple stubs that reference\nthe included packages via \\RequirePackage rather than copying\ntheir source.
