Instead, they keep the connections open and reply very slowly.\nIf the peer is patient enough to actually complete the SMTP dialogue (which\nwill take ten minutes or more), the tarpit returns a 'temporary error' code\n(4xx), which indicates that the mail could not be delivered successfully and\nthat the sender should keep the mail in his queue and retry again later.\nIf the spammer does, the same procedure repeats. Until, after several attempts,\nwasting both his queue space and socket handles for several days, the spammer\ngives up. The resources the spamd server has to waste to do this are minimal.\n\nIf the sender is badly configured, an uncooperative recipient might actually\ndelay his entire queue handling for several minutes each time he connects to\nthe tarpit. And many spammers use badly configured open relays.","flavors":[],"html":"https://daemonports.org/netbsd/wip/spamd-devel/","kind":"port","lastUpdate":null,"license":[],"maintainer":"reed@reedmedia.net","name":"spamd","newest":true,"newestVersion":"20070531","noVulnData":false,"origin":"wip/spamd-devel","otherSystems":[{"maintainer":"ports@FreeBSD.org","matchedBy":"name","origin":"mail/spamd","path":"/mail/spamd/","system":"FreeBSD","version":"4.9.1_7"},{"maintainer":"koue@chaosophia.net","matchedBy":"name","origin":"mail/spamd","path":"/dragonfly/mail/spamd/","system":"DragonFly","version":"4.9.1_7"},{"maintainer":"ports@MidnightBSD.org","matchedBy":"name","noVulnData":true,"origin":"mail/spamd","path":"/midnightbsd/mail/spamd/","system":"MidnightBSD","version":"4.9.1_3"}],"packages":null,"pkgName":"spamd-20070531nb1","related":["mail/spamd"],"repository":"pkgsrc-wip","requiredBy":[],"requiredByCount":0,"runDepends":[],"status":null,"system":"netbsd","systemLabel":"NetBSD","version":"20070531nb1","versions":null,"vulnerabilities":null,"www":null}
