This IMAP server does NOT handle traditional mailbox files\n(/var/spool/mail, and derivatives), it was written for the specific\npurpose of providing IMAP access to Maildirs.\n\nThe Courier-IMAP implements some extensions to the basic Maildir mail\nstorage format in order to support some additional features, such as\nfolders and \"soft\" quotas. This is done in a way that's backwards\ncompatible with the standard Maildir users (although, of course, they\nwill ignore the additional features). Other software that understands\nand uses the same Maildir extensions is SqWebMail, and maildrop.\n\n\"Maildir\" is a directory-based mail storage format originally introduced\nin the Qmail mail server, and adopted as an alternative mail storage\nformat by both Exim and Postfix. Courier-IMAP is popular on\nQmail/Exim/Postfix sites that are configured to use maildirs.  The\nprimary advantage of maildirs is that multiple applications can access\nthe same maildir simultaneously without requiring any kind of locking\nwhatsoever. It is a faster and more efficient way to store mail. It\nworks particularly well over NFS, which has a long history of\nlocking-related woes.\n\nIt is part of the Courier mail server (http://www.courier-mta.org) but\ncan be configured as a standalone IMAP server.\n\nFeatures include an extremely small memory footprint, abstract\nauthentication modules (e.g. /etc/passwd, LDAP, PAM), virtual mailbox\nsupport, resource controls, SSL/TLS, and IPv6 support.","flavors":[],"html":"https://daemonports.org/openbsd/mail/courier-imap/","kind":"port","lastUpdate":null,"license":null,"maintainer":"Giovanni Bechis \u003cgiovanni@openbsd.org\u003e","name":"courier-imap","newest":false,"newestVersion":"6.0.7","noVulnData":true,"origin":"mail/courier-imap","otherSystems":[{"maintainer":"madpilot@FreeBSD.org","newest":true,"origin":"mail/courier-imap","path":"/mail/courier-imap/","system":"FreeBSD","updated":"2026-10-01","version":"6.0.7,2"},{"behindSince":"2026-07-13","maintainer":"pkgsrc-users@NetBSD.org","origin":"mail/courier-imap","path":"/netbsd/mail/courier-imap/","system":"NetBSD","updated":"2026-09-29","version":"5.2.6nb2"},{"behindSince":"2026-07-13","maintainer":"madpilot@FreeBSD.org","origin":"mail/courier-imap","path":"/dragonfly/mail/courier-imap/","system":"DragonFly","version":"5.2.10_1,2"},{"behindSince":"2026-10-01","maintainer":"ports@MidnightBSD.org","noVulnData":true,"origin":"mail/courier-imap","path":"/midnightbsd/mail/courier-imap/","system":"MidnightBSD","updated":"2026-08-09","version":"6.0.6,2"},{"behindSince":"2026-10-01","maintainer":"madpilot@FreeBSD.org","noVulnData":true,"origin":"mail/courier-imap","path":"","system":"HardenedBSD","version":"6.0.6_1,2"},{"behindSince":"2026-10-01","maintainer":"madpilot@FreeBSD.org","noVulnData":true,"origin":"mail/courier-imap","path":"","system":"GhostBSD","version":"6.0.6_1,2"}],"packages":null,"pkgName":"courier-imap-5.2.10p1","related":["mail/courier-unicode"],"repository":"OpenBSD ports","requiredBy":[],"requiredByCount":0,"runDepends":["databases/gdbm","devel/libidn2","devel/pcre2","mail/courier-authlib","mail/courier-unicode"],"status":null,"system":"openbsd","systemLabel":"OpenBSD","version":"5.2.10p1","versions":null,"vulnerabilities":null,"www":"http://www.courier-mta.org/imap/"}
