Description

pgpool is a connection pool server for PostgreSQL. pgpool runs between PostgreSQL's clients(front ends) and servers(back ends). A PostgreSQL client can connect to pgpool as if it were a standard PostgreSQL server.

pgpool caches the connection to PostgreSQL server to reduce the overhead to establish the connection to it.

Install

Binary package:

pkg install pgpool-II-46

From the ports tree:

cd /usr/ports/databases/pgpool-II-46/ && make install clean

To depend on this port in another port's Makefile:

RUN_DEPENDS=	pgpool-II-46>0:databases/pgpool-II-46
LIB_DEPENDS=	libpcp.so:databases/pgpool-II-46

Packages

The version each package repository carries. “-” means the repository builds no package of it, “n/a” that there is no such repository.

Message after installing

In order to start pgpool you need some more configuration:

# sysrc pgpool_user="root"
# service pgpool enable

Please consider the usage of another user. The user is
required to have read/write access to /var/run/pgpool.

Using the root user is - as always - an security issue.
