Description

TIC-80 is a free and open source fantasy computer for making, playing and sharing tiny games.

With TIC-80 you get built-in tools for development: code, sprites, maps, sound editors and the command line, which is enough to create a mini retro game.

Games are packaged into a cartridge file, which can be easily distributed. TIC-80 works on all popular platforms. This means your cartridge can be played in any device.

To make a retro styled game, the whole process of creation and execution takes place under some technical limitations: 240x136 pixel display, 16 color palette, 256 8x8 color sprites, 4 channel sound, etc.

Install

Binary package:

pkg install TIC-80

From the ports tree:

cd /usr/ports/emulators/tic-80/ && make install clean

To depend on this port in another port's Makefile:

RUN_DEPENDS=	TIC-80>0:emulators/tic-80

Packages

The version each package repository carries. “-” means the repository builds no package of it, “n/a” that there is no such repository.

346a71fd64 Robert Clausecker emulators/tic-80: return to pool
Upstream has recently updated this project, redoing the entire build system. It was very time consuming to port on account of having to unbundle all sorts of dependencies. Having just started a new job, I don't seem to have the time to do it all over again for the new build system.
de32579ec7 Robert Clausecker emulators/tic-80: fix build with cmake 4
A new version of TIC-80 seems to be out, but there has not been an official release yet. Fix the old one as a stop-gap measure. Event: EuroBSDcon Devsummit 2026
