Description

V8 is Google's open source high-performance JavaScript and WebAssembly engine, written in C++. It is used in Chrome and in Node.js, among others.

V8 implements ECMAScript and WebAssembly. V8 can run standalone, or can be embedded into any C++ application.

V8 compiles and executes JavaScript source code, handles memory allocation for objects, and garbage collects objects it no longer needs. V8's stop-the-world, generational, accurate garbage collector is one of the keys to V8's performance.

V8's Git repository is located at https://chromium.googlesource.com/v8/v8.git, with an official mirror on GitHub: https://github.com/v8/v8.

Install

As a binary package — by origin, or by package name:

pkg install lang/v8-beta
pkg install v8-beta

From the ports tree:

cd /usr/ports/lang/v8-beta/ && make install clean

- Update the dependency pins from DEPS and the Temporal crates to the versions in Chromium's third_party/rust. - Adapt the pkg-config.py and PartitionAlloc stack patches to upstream changes. Initialize the attribute object before passing it to pthread_attr_get_np(), which FreeBSD requires. - libclang's Python bindings before LLVM 21 pass non-Cursor operands such as None to clang_equalCursors(), which metagen now relies on working. Extend the existing shim with LLVM 21's Cursor.__eq__.

aa7442f424 Xin LI lang/v8-beta: update to 15.6.75.8 (Chrome 156 beta)
Rebuild the port on top of lang/v8 and follow the Chrome Linux beta channel again. Compared to lang/v8 15.5.35.20: - Read time zone data from devel/icu through the new upstream v8_enable_temporal_systemicu option instead of a local patch. - Port PartitionAlloc's zero segment, which keeps the low 4 GB of the address space inaccessible, to FreeBSD. Hinted mappings are not honored with ASLR, so reserve the range with a guard mapping. d8 now refuses to start when the range can not be reserved; only have it do so when ASLR is active, as position-independent executables are loaded below 4 GB otherwise. - Drop patches for files the build does not use and the EXAMPLES leftovers. - Take maintainership.
