Description

The PyPA recommended tool for installing and managing Python packages.

pip is a replacement for easy_install. It uses mostly the same techniques for finding packages, so packages that were made easy_installable should be pip-installable as well.

pip is meant to improve on easy_install. Some of the improvements:

\* All packages are downloaded before installation. Partially-completed
  installation doesn't occur as a result.
\* Care is taken to present useful output on the console.
\* The reasons for actions are kept track of. For instance, if a package
  is being installed, pip keeps track of why that package was required.
\* Error messages should be useful.
\* Packages don't have to be installed as egg archives, they can be
  installed flat (while keeping the egg metadata).

4b717f9c50 Lucas Holt devel/py-pip: re-enable DOCS option (#1915)
Follow-up to #1900 (pip 26.2.2, merged). **Depends on #1912 (py-sphinx 7.4.7) and #1914 (py-sphinx-issues 5.0.1); merge after those.** #1913 (towncrier 26.9.0) is already merged. **Changes** - Brought back `OPTIONS_DEFINE=DOCS`. #1900 had turned it off because `build_sphinx` disappeared along with `setup.py`. - `post-build-DOCS-on` now runs `${PYTHON_CMD} -m sphinx --tag html -c docs/html -b html`, the same way upstream's noxfile does, with `PYTHONPATH=${WRKSRC}/src` so `pip_sphinxext` can import pip. - DOCS_BUILD_DEPENDS: - The sphinx pin is now `>=7.0,1<8.0,1`, matching upstream's `sphinx ~= 7.0`. - Added `sphinx-issues>=4.0`, which provides the `:pypi:` role. - towncrier is unpinned. Upstream's `towncrier < 24` pin works around …
78427eb536 Lucas Holt devel/py-pip: update to 26.2.2 [security] (#1900)
## Changes - Update pip 23.3.2 -> 26.2.2. - Upstream dropped `setup.py`. The port now uses `USE_PYTHON=pep517` with `BUILD_DEPENDS` on `devel/py-flit-core` (>=3.11<4). It also uses `USES=python:3.10+` because upstream `requires-python = ">=3.10"`. - Patches: replaced `files/patch-setup.py` with `files/patch-pyproject.toml`, which removes the `pip3` entry from `[project.scripts]` so that only `pip` is installed (same intent as before). Removed `files/patch-setup.cfg`, an obsolete pytest `norecursedirs` tweak that the tests no longer use. - Removed the test-only setuptools/wheel wheel distfiles. `NO_TEST=yes` stays, so nothing used them. - DOCS is turned off and the reason is in the Makefile. `build_sphinx` no longer exists, and the docs need sphinx ~= 7.0 and towncrier < 24, …
