Description

rsync is a replacement for rcp that has many more features.

rsync uses the "rsync algorithm" which provides a very fast method for bringing remote files into sync. It does this by sending just the differences in the files across the link, without requiring that both sets of files are present at one of the ends of the link beforehand. This makes rsync a good remote file distribution/synchronization utility in a dialup PPP/SLIP environment.

Note, requires rsync on the destination machine.

There is a Computer Science Technical Report on the rsync algorithm is included in the distribution, and is available as ftp://samba.anu.edu.au/pub/rsync/tech_report.ps

Install

Binary package:

## Summary - update `net/rsync` from 3.4.4_1 to the 3.5.0 security release - rebase the FreeBSD extended-attribute patch and remove the obsolete shell xattr test patch - enable upstream's `check` test target - make the new cross-device backup test probe actual directory creation on MidnightBSD ## Why Rsync 3.5.0 fixes 33 security issues found during a focused audit of path handling and the daemon protocol. The new upstream cross-device test initially selected MidnightBSD's read-only `/dev/shm` because root's access check reported it writable.
