Description

freebsd-snapshot is a set of convenience frontend tools to mount(8) and mdconfig(8) for the management of UFS2/ZFS snapshots. It is also the under-lying tool used in the periodic snapshot scheduler periodic-snapshot(8) and the mounting/unmouning command in the amd(8) map /usr/local/etc/amd.map.snap. It provides the making, expiring, visiting, mounting and unmounting of filesystem snapshots.

Install

Binary package:

pkg install freebsd-snapshot

From the ports tree:

cd /usr/ports/sysutils/freebsd-snapshot/ && make install clean

To depend on this port in another port's Makefile:

RUN_DEPENDS=	freebsd-snapshot>0:sysutils/freebsd-snapshot

Packages

# Perform hourly/daily/weekly maintenance (FreeBSD UFS2/ZFS snapshots only).
0	*	*	*	*	root	/usr/local/sbin/periodic-snapshot hourly
0	0	*	*	*	root	/usr/local/sbin/periodic-snapshot daily
0	0	*	*	0	root	/usr/local/sbin/periodic-snapshot weekly

and edit your periodic.conf and include this:

# UFS2/ZFS Snapshot Creation
snapshot_enable="YES"
snapshot_schedule="/,/usr:2:1:0 /var:0:2:4 /home:2:6:8@8,12,16,20"

Using auto-mount for easy access to snapshot data

Edit your rc.conf and include this:

# UFS2/ZFS Snapshot Access
amd_enable="YES"
amd_flags="-a /.am -c 1800 -w 60 -l syslog /snap /usr/local/etc/amd.map.snap"

If you completly remove this port, do not forget
then remove lines included by you in:

crontab
periodic.conf
rc.conf
