gdk-pixbuf2 -- a heap buffer overflow
[email protected] reports: A flaw exists in gdk-pixbuf within the gdk_pixbuf__jpeg_image_load_increment function (io-jpeg.c) and in glib’s g_base64_encode_step (glib/gbase64.c). When processing maliciously crafted JPEG images, a heap buffer overflow can occur during Base64 encoding, allowing out-of-bounds reads from heap memory, potentially causing application crashes or arbitrary code execution.
Affected versions
- gdk-pixbuf2 < 2.42.12_2
By system
1 still vulnerable, 1 fixed. Where VuXML applies (FreeBSD, DragonFly, FreeBSD's derivatives) a port is vulnerable while its version is in a range; pkgsrc says itself whether it lists a CVE of this advisory; OpenBSD and MidnightBSD keep no list this site reads, so their row is only an estimate: FreeBSD's ranges applied to upstream's version.
| System | Port | Version | State | Fixed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DragonFly | graphics/gdk-pixbuf2 | 2.42.12_1 | vulnerable since 2025-07-24 | |
| OpenBSD | graphics/gdk-pixbuf2 | 2.44.8 | out of range, by version | |
| NetBSD | graphics/gdk-pixbuf2 | 2.44.8nb1 | not listed | |
| MidnightBSD | graphics/gdk-pixbuf2 | 2.44.8 | out of range, by version | |
| FreeBSD | graphics/gdk-pixbuf2 | 2.44.1 | fixed |
