libsmi -- Buffer overflow in the smiGetNode function in lib/smi
http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2011-01/msg00003.html reports: Buffer overflow in the smiGetNode function in lib/smi.c in libsmi 0.4.8 allows context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary code via an Object Identifier (aka OID) represented as a numerical string containing many components separated by . (dot) characters.
Affected versions
- libsmi >= 0.4.8 < 0.4.8_3
By system
1 still vulnerable, 1 fixed. Where VuXML applies (FreeBSD, DragonFly, FreeBSD's derivatives) a port is vulnerable while its version is in a range; pkgsrc says itself whether it lists a CVE of this advisory; OpenBSD and MidnightBSD keep no list this site reads, so their row is only an estimate: FreeBSD's ranges applied to upstream's version.
| System | Port | Version | State | Fixed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DragonFly | net-mgmt/libsmi | 0.4.8_2 | vulnerable since 2026-06-14 | |
| OpenBSD | net/libsmi | 0.5.0 | out of range, by version | |
| NetBSD | devel/libsmi | 0.5.0nb1 | not listed | |
| MidnightBSD | net-mgmt/libsmi | 0.4.8_2 | out of range, by version | |
| FreeBSD | net-mgmt/libsmi | 0.4.8_3 | fixed |
