7-Zip -- Multi-byte write heap buffer overflow in NCompress::NRar5::CDecoder
· CVE-2025-53816 · VuXML entry
[email protected] reports: 7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio. Zeroes written outside heap buffer in RAR5 handler may lead to memory corruption and denial of service in versions of 7-Zip prior to 25.0.0. Version 25.0.0 contains a fix for the issue.
Affected versions
- 7-zip < 25.00
By system
1 still vulnerable, 1 fixed. Where VuXML applies (FreeBSD, DragonFly, FreeBSD's derivatives) a port is vulnerable while its version is in a range; pkgsrc says itself whether it lists a CVE of this advisory; OpenBSD and MidnightBSD keep no list this site reads, so their row is only an estimate: FreeBSD's ranges applied to upstream's version.
| System | Port | Version | State | Fixed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FreeBSD | archivers/7-zip | 26.05 | fixed | (414 days after) |
| NetBSD | archivers/7-zip | 26.03 | not listed | |
| MidnightBSD | archivers/7-zip | 26.03 | out of range, by version | |
| DragonFly | archivers/7-zip | 24.09 | vulnerable since 2025-07-22 |
