Install

Binary package:

pkg install garage

From the ports tree:

cd /usr/ports/www/garage/ && make install clean

To depend on this port in another port's Makefile:

RUN_DEPENDS=	garage>0:www/garage

Message after installing

Garage now supports logging to syslog. To log to syslog, please specify in rc.conf(5):

  garage_log_file=syslog

To upgrade from 0.8.x to 0.9.0, please refer to the upgrade instructions at:

To get started, refer to the documentation at:

  /usr/local/share/doc/garage/book/src/quick_start/index.md

Please configure Garage in /usr/local/etc/garage.toml before starting the service.

And if you want to run Garage as a user other than 'garage':

  sysrc garage_runas="your-user"
  chown :your-group /usr/local/etc/garage.toml
  chown -Rh your-user:your-group /var/db/garage

Garage now runs as an unprivileged user (garage) with a
preconfigured storage location at /var/db/garage.

Existing installations need to change storage location and configuration file
permissions to ensure the service continues to function correctly:

  service garage stop
  chown :garage /usr/local/etc/garage.toml
  chown -Rh garage:garage /path/to/existing/storage/location/
  service garage start

Or, if you prefer to run Garage as a different user, set 'garage_runas'
to your preferred value.

  sysrc garage_runas="your-user"

You can continue to run Garage as root (the previous user), for example,
but existing installations are encouraged to switch to a non-privileged
user.
