Description

Cython is a Python compiler that makes writing C extensions for Python as easy as Python itself. Cython is based on Pyrex, but supports more cutting edge functionality and optimizations.

Cython translates Python code to C/C++ code, but additionally supports calling C functions and declaring C types on variables and class attributes. This allows the compiler to generate very efficient C code from Cython code.

This makes Cython the ideal language for wrapping external C libraries, and for fast C modules that speed up the execution of Python code.

11f02b8061 Lucas Holt lang/cython: update to 3.3.0 (#1263)
Update `lang/cython` from 3.2.9 to 3.3.0 (upstream release 2026-08-22). ## Validation - `bmake makesum`, `patch`, `build`, `fake`, `package` — all clean (py312) - `portlint -AC` — 0 fatal errors - License unchanged (Apache-2.0) ## Dependent testing - `x11-fonts/py-compreffor` — rebuilds against 3.3.0 with no changes - `devel/py-lxml` — see below ## Note: depends on companion py-lxml PR `devel/py-lxml` 6.1.3 declares `requires = ["Cython>=3.2.9,<3.3", "setuptools"]` in its upstream `pyproject.toml`, so it will not build against Cython 3.3.0 as-is. lxml 6.1.3 is the latest upstream release, so no newer version relaxes this. The pin is upstream caution rather than a real incompatibility: with it relaxed, lxml 6.1.3 …
