Description

ConsoleKit2 is a framework for defining and tracking users, login sessions, and seats. It allows multiple users to be logged in at the same time and share hardware for their graphical session. ConsoleKit2 will keep track of those resources and whichever session is active will have use of the hardware at that time.

What is a seat?

A seat is a collection of sessions and a set of hardware (usually at least a keyboard and mouse). Only one session may be active on a seat at a time.

What is a session?

A session is a collection of all processes that originate from a single common ancestor and retain knowledge of a secret. As an implementation detail, this secret may be stored in the process environment by the login manager under the name XDG_SESSION_COOKIE.

898ad6ffb6 Lucas Holt sysutils/consolekit2: allow opting out of session process cleanup (#1822)
Follow-up to #1821. This opt-out was pushed to that PR's branch about a minute after it was merged, so master doesn't have it. ## Change #1821 made `ck-launch-session` stop the processes left in a session (SIGTERM, a 3 s grace period, then SIGKILL) before ConsoleKit closes the session and removes `XDG_RUNTIME_DIR`. This adds an opt-out: - If `MIDNIGHT_KEEP_SESSION_PROCESSES=1` is set in `ck-launch-session`'s environment, it doesn't become a reaper and leaves the remaining processes alone, as upstream does. Any other value, or leaving it unset, keeps the cleanup. - The variable stays in the environment, so midnight-wm, which uses the same variable (MidnightBSD/midnight-wm#75), sees it as well. - The cost: processes that survive keep a runtime directory that …
53a20e0007 Lucas Holt sysutils/consolekit2: keep session processes inside ck-launch-session (#1821)
## Problem `ck-launch-session` holds the ConsoleKit session open only while its own process is alive. It exited as soon as its direct child did, but processes started in the session can outlive that child: dbus-run-session's dbus-daemon and the services it activated (dconf-service, gvfsd, portals), plus daemonized helpers. ConsoleKit closed the session and, if it was the user's last one, deleted `/var/run/user/<uid>` while they were still running. Their writes then failed, e.g. dconf: `unable to create directory '/var/run/user/<uid>/dconf': Permission denied`. Users of `startx` with `exec ck-launch-session <wm>` in `~/.xinitrc`, which is now the base default, hit this. Two smaller bugs in the same code: - The parent called `exit()` with the raw `waitpid` status, so a command …

a05b377b53 Lucas Holt *: bump PORTREVISION for the textproc/libxml2 2.15 shared library change (#848)
`textproc/libxml2` 2.15 changed SONAME from `libxml2.so.2` to `libxml2.so.16` **and** removed ELF symbol versioning entirely — the new library defines no `LIBXML2_*` versions at all. Consumers built against the old library were never rebuilt, so they still record a dependency on `libxml2.so.2` plus version requirements nothing can satisfy, and fail at load time: ``` ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/lib/libxml2.so.2: version LIBXML2_2.4.30 required by /usr/local/lib/libevdocument3.so.4 not defined ``` ### Scope `Tools/scripts/bump_revision.pl -f -l textproc/libxml2` — **436 Makefiles**: 323 revisions incremented, 113 gained a `PORTREVISION` line. The diff touches nothing but `PORTREVISION` lines (verified: `git diff -U0` shows no other changed line), and spot-checked ports still …
