vifm -- Unverified Ownership
· CVE-2026-110237 · VuXML entry
https://hackmd.io/@1ExmmukzRMWN7B4gQ4W-4Q/SkX7Pmiofg reports: Vifm 0.8.1-beta through 0.14.4 reuses a pre-existing IPC FIFO in the shared temporary directory without checking ownership, allowing local users to execute commands as another user. Attackers can pre-create a world-writable vifm-ipc-vifm FIFO and write IPC packets with -c and ! shell commands that execute with the victim's privileges.
Affected versions
- vifm < 0.14.5
By system
1 still vulnerable, 1 fixed. Where VuXML applies (FreeBSD, DragonFly, FreeBSD's derivatives) a port is vulnerable while its version is in a range; pkgsrc says itself whether it lists a CVE of this advisory; OpenBSD and MidnightBSD keep no list this site reads, so their row is only an estimate: FreeBSD's ranges applied to upstream's version.
| System | Port | Version | State | Fixed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DragonFly | misc/vifm | 0.13_2 | vulnerable since 2026-10-23 | |
| OpenBSD | sysutils/vifm | 0.14.4 | in range, by version | |
| NetBSD | sysutils/vifm | 0.14.3 | not listed | |
| FreeBSD | misc/vifm | 0.14.5 | fixed |
