Description

littleFedi is a small ActivityPub server written in Go. It runs as a single binary with SQLite, local media storage and a web interface that works without JavaScript. Mastodon-compatible applications can connect through its API.

Optional features include a PostgreSQL backend, S3 media storage and static blogs. littleMesh lets hosts without a public domain or inbound ports federate through self-hosted lighthouses and HTTPS gateways.

Version history 2

  1. 26.10.13 8e18e3939b
  2. 26.10.01 b918687ad2

Upstream's version as each commit to the port's Makefile set it, or as this site first saw it in the system's packages; the tree's own revisions are not versions here.

Install

Binary package:

pkg install littlefedi

From the ports tree:

cd /usr/ports/www/littlefedi/ && make install clean

To depend on this port in another port's Makefile:

RUN_DEPENDS=	littlefedi>0:www/littlefedi

Packages

The version each package repository carries. “-” means the repository builds no package of it, “n/a” that there is no such repository.

Dependency graph

Ports that need it on the left, what it needs to run on the right (to build, as it needs nothing to run); at most 8 of each. "Dependencies" below lists them all.

Dependencies

The Makefile names none itself; they come from USES and USE_*.

The full lists below include those, and their dependencies in turn.

No port depends on this one.

Message after installing

The setup wizard creates the database beside the configuration it writes, so
it must be run as the littlefedi user with /var/db/littlefedi as the current
directory. The generated configuration is then moved to
/usr/local/etc/littlefedi/littlefedi.toml, where the service reads it.

Choose the setup matching the installed package.

SQLite (the default package):

  cd /var/db/littlefedi
  su -m littlefedi -c '/usr/local/bin/littlefedi init --config ./littlefedi.toml'

PostgreSQL (the -pgsql package): create the PostgreSQL role and database, then
put the connection URL in /usr/local/etc/littlefedi/littlefedi.env using shell-compatible
syntax. The file must be owned by root:littlefedi, mode 0640:

  LITTLEFEDI_DB_DSN='postgresql://littlefedi:[email protected]/littlefedi?sslmode=disable'

Run the wizard with that environment:

  cd /var/db/littlefedi
  su -m littlefedi -c 'set -a && . /usr/local/etc/littlefedi/littlefedi.env && set +a && /usr/local/bin/littlefedi init --config ./littlefedi.toml'

For either backend, move the generated configuration into place:

  install -o root -g littlefedi -m 0640 /var/db/littlefedi/littlefedi.toml /usr/local/etc/littlefedi/littlefedi.toml
  rm /var/db/littlefedi/littlefedi.toml

PostgreSQL backup and restore invoke pg_dump and psql. Install a client version
compatible with the server before using those commands or enabling backups.

Enable and start the service:

  service littlefedi enable
  service littlefedi start

/usr/local/share/doc/littlefedi/install.md covers secrets, TLS and reverse proxy setup.
