Description

MySQL is a very fast, multi-threaded, multi-user and robust SQL (Structured Query Language) database server. MySQL Server is intended for mission-critical, heavy-load production systems as well as for embedding into mass-deployed software

Install

Binary package:

From the ports tree:

Message after installing

There is no initial password for first time use of MySQL.
Keep in mind to reset it to a secure password.

MySQL 8.4 has a default /usr/local/etc/mysql/my.cnf,
remember to replace it with your own
or set `mysql_optfile="$YOUR_CNF_FILE"` in rc.conf.

MySQL Router is part of this package.  It is disabled by default.  To use it:

	cp /usr/local/etc/mysqlrouter/mysqlrouter.conf.sample \
		/usr/local/etc/mysqlrouter/mysqlrouter.conf
	sysrc mysqlrouter_enable=YES
	service mysqlrouter start

The router runs as the user "mysqlrouter" and logs to
/var/log/mysqlrouter/mysqlrouter.log.  Do not add a "pid_file" or a "user"
entry to mysqlrouter.conf, the rc script takes care of both.

When creating a configuration for an InnoDB cluster, run
mysqlrouter --bootstrap --user=mysqlrouter, so that the generated
files below /var/db/mysqlrouter belong to that account.

If the router has to serve many connections, raise "openfiles" for its login
class in /etc/login.conf and point mysqlrouter_login_class in rc.conf at it,
upstream uses 10000.

The MySQL server performs all upgrade tasks itself at startup.
The mysql_upgrade utility does not exist anymore in MySQL 8.4.

This version adds an rc script, a configuration sample and the system user
"mysqlrouter" for MySQL Router.  Nothing is enabled automatically.

If you already run MySQL Router yourself, note:

- An own /usr/local/etc/rc.d/mysqlrouter was renamed to mysqlrouter.pkgsave
  by pkg and is not used anymore.
- An existing /var/log/mysqlrouter, /var/run/mysqlrouter or
  /var/db/mysqlrouter is left untouched, ownership and permissions are not
  changed.  The rc script only creates the directories when they are
  missing.  If your router runs under a different account, set
  mysqlrouter_user and mysqlrouter_group in rc.conf.
- /usr/local/etc/logrotate.d/mysqlrouter works from now on, its
  "create 600 mysqlrouter mysqlrouter" no longer points at a missing user.

MySQL Router fails to start when the configuration contains an [http_server] section, as generated by mysqlsh: Error: Loading plugin for config-section '[http_server]' failed: libmysqlrouter_http_server.so.1: No space available for static Thread Local Storage Upstream compiles with -ftls-model=initial-exec, so router libraries loaded through dlopen(3) have to be placed in the static TLS block. libmysqlrouter_http_server.so.1 needs 272 bytes and libmysqlharness.so.1 another 32, while rtld reserves 128 bytes for objects loaded later. The crc32 code declares target("sse4.2"), but the _mm_crc32_* intrinsics require the crc32 feature. With -mno-crc32, as emitted by -march=native on a CPU without the instruction, sse4.2 no longer implies crc32 and the build fails. All three server ports build and install MySQL Router, but it was never usable out of the box: there is no mysqlrouter user, no rc script, no configuration directory, and no log, runtime or data directory. The only trace of an integration was etc/logrotate.d/mysqlrouter, whose "create 600 mysqlrouter mysqlrouter" refers to an account that no port creates, so logrotate(8) skipped that entry with an error and exited non-zero. Upstream names that account itself: scripts/CMakeLists.txt sets MYSQLROUTER_USER to "mysqlrouter", the built-in help of mysqlrouter suggests --user=mysqlrouter, and the systemd unit shipped for Linux runs the service under it.
