Description

GNU Emacs is an extensible, customizable, free/libre text editor. At its core is an interpreter for Emacs Lisp, a dialect of the Lisp programming language with extensions to support text editing.

The features of GNU Emacs include:

  • content-aware editing modes, including syntax coloring, for many file types
  • complete built-in documentation, including a tutorial for new users
  • full Unicode support for nearly all human scripts
  • powerful customizability, using Emacs Lisp code or a graphical interface
  • a vast ecosystem of functionality beyond text editing, including a project planner, mail and news reader, debugger interface, calendar, even a psychotherapist, and more
  • a packaging system for downloading and installing extensions.

508ecb190a Lucas Holt editors/emacs: use WebKitGTK 4.1 for XWIDGETS (#1958)
## Summary - Switch the XWIDGETS option from `www/webkit2-gtk@40` (webkit2gtk-4.0) to `www/webkit2-gtk@41` (webkit2gtk-4.1). webkit2-gtk 2.52.0 dropped libsoup2, so the @40 flavor can no longer build and is being removed. - Replace `libsoup-2.4.so:devel/libsoup` with `libsoup-3.0.so:devel/libsoup3`: `webkit2gtk-4.1.pc` has `libsoup-3.0` in its public `Requires`, so the emacs binary gets a direct `DT_NEEDED` on `libsoup-3.0.so.0`. Without the dependency, fake-qa reports `you need LIB_DEPENDS+=libsoup-3.0.so:devel/libsoup3`. - Emacs 31.1 `configure.ac` checks `webkit2gtk-4.1 >= 2.12` first and falls back to `webkit2gtk-4.0 >= 2.12`. It has no upper version bound, so no source patch is needed. - PORTREVISION 4 -> 5 because the option's dependencies changed. This …
a05b377b53 Lucas Holt *: bump PORTREVISION for the textproc/libxml2 2.15 shared library change (#848)
`textproc/libxml2` 2.15 changed SONAME from `libxml2.so.2` to `libxml2.so.16` **and** removed ELF symbol versioning entirely — the new library defines no `LIBXML2_*` versions at all. Consumers built against the old library were never rebuilt, so they still record a dependency on `libxml2.so.2` plus version requirements nothing can satisfy, and fail at load time: ``` ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/lib/libxml2.so.2: version LIBXML2_2.4.30 required by /usr/local/lib/libevdocument3.so.4 not defined ``` ### Scope `Tools/scripts/bump_revision.pl -f -l textproc/libxml2` — **436 Makefiles**: 323 revisions incremented, 113 gained a `PORTREVISION` line. The diff touches nothing but `PORTREVISION` lines (verified: `git diff -U0` shows no other changed line), and spot-checked ports still …
2faeb144df Lucas Holt editors/emacs: update to 31.1 (#787)
## Summary - update GNU Emacs from 30.2 to 31.1 and refresh the plist - update the stable version in `Mk/extensions/emacs.mk` so dependent ports resolve Emacs 31.1 - update the Canna patch and preserve native compilation during bootstrap - remove the obsolete local CVE-2026-6861 patch, which is included upstream - declare the ports SQLite dependency selected by configure Emacs 31.1 contains the upstream TRAMP hardening for CVE-2026-79992. Reverse dry-running the disclosed fix against the 31.1 source succeeds for every hunk, confirming the release contains that patch. ## Validation - `bmake makesum` - `bmake check-license` - `bmake clean patch` - `bmake` - `bmake fake package` - `bmake FLAVOR=canna clean package` - fake-QA passed for default and Canna flavors …
b0f1f5fc8d Lucas Holt editors/emacs: fix CVE-2026-6861 (SVG stylesheet heap overflow) (#757)
## Summary `svg_load_image()` in `src/image.c` writes its NUL terminator one byte past the end of the buffer allocated for an SVG's inline stylesheet data: ```c css = xmalloc (SBYTES (lcss) + 1); strncpy (css, SSDATA (lcss), SBYTES (lcss)); *(css + SBYTES (lcss) + 1) = 0; /* one past the allocation */ ``` Opening a crafted SVG corrupts the heap, which can crash Emacs or disclose adjacent memory. - **CVE-2026-6861** — affects 28.1 through 30.2 inclusive - Only reachable when built with SVG support (librsvg), which is on by default via `OPTIONS_DEFAULT` - Upstream bug: https://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=80851 - Obtained from: FreeBSD ports [`915d199e510d`](https://cgit.freebsd.org/ports/commit/?id=915d199e510d) …
