Description

GNU Emacs is an extensible, customizable editor textand more. At its core is an interpreter for Emacs Lisp, a dialect of the Lisp programming language with extensions to support text editing. The features of GNU Emacs include:

  • Content-sensitive editing modes, including syntax coloring, for a wide variety of file types including plain text, source code, and HTML.
  • Complete built-in documentation, including a tutorial for new users.
  • Support for many languages and their scripts, including all scripts, Russian, Greek, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Lao, Ethiopian, and some Indian scripts.
  • Highly customizable, using Emacs Lisp code or a graphical customization interface.
  • A large number of extensions that add other functionality, including a project planner, mail and news reader, debugger interface, calendar, and more. Many of these extensions are distributed with GNU Emacs; others are available separately.

This is a meta-package that installs the default Emacs version.

b3017c2e8f wiz emacs: bugfix for modules.mk
From Showta Ishizaki
0f705b88ca wiz emacs: improve module framework
With a lot of help from Showta Ishizaki. It now supports the features we expect from a module framework: - allow specifying supported versions - allow specifying unsupported versions - reduce conflicts between versions (this is not as important as e.g. for Python, because the base emacs* and xemacs* packages still conflict with each other) - tag the PKGNAME with the version it was built for; so e.g. "magit" is now called "emacs30-magit" etc. depending on the version it was built for - build all supported versions of a module in bulk builds Different to the other frameworks: - we have emacs* and emacs*nox, the reduced version without X support; since they use the same byte compiler and provide the same functions, there is only one emacs30-foo package that supports both …
5466b81bca wiz emacs: remove another reference to emacs21
79de02301c wiz emacs21*: remove
No active users found on request to pkgsrc-users two weeks ago. emacs20 remains. Remove packages limited to emacs21: bbdb2: use bbdb3 nxml-mode: included in modern emacs jde: I guess more modern Java IDEs for emacs exist nowadays
11464f14b4 wiz *: remove emacs26*. emacs27*, emacs28*
We still have 20, 21, and 29-31, that's plenty of versions.
